Corn Pickers

Last night we picked corn! This was an exciting event for Tristan & Piper, because from the moment they saw the seeds go into the ground, they could not wait to eat "our" corn. Tristan conducted almost daily "checks" to see if the corn was ready. So, while the water was boiling on the stove, we picked and then husked the corn outside. Was it the best corn we ever tasted? Well, no. But it wasn't horrible either. The fact that we planted it, nurtured it, saved it from an aphid infestation, harvested it from our backyard, and walked it on our own two feet to our kitchen to eat it, with no fossil fuels used in the process was really the main point. Sustainability. Self sustainability. Reducing our carbon footprint. They go hand in hand. And it makes you feel darn good!
